The Pacific Ocean gyre, measuring twice the size of Texas. Floats up, and down our coast. Why? Because we as Americans don’t like seeing how much excess we create with our overly eccentric lives. We like to believe that we can live in nice communities, where the trash man comes once a week to pick up our waste. Not knowing and not caring where it goes, as long as it’s out of sight and out of mind. But like Kinetic energy our force has to be exerted somewhere. - - -
One of these places just happens to be a giant island of trash floating in the pacific. Other places include many third world countries, and while these countries are already burying themselves with their own waste. We at the top of the pyramid continue to dump ours on them as well. So what should we do?
In the twentieth century, we thought we had a solution. Recycle. So we sent our garbage to the lowest bidder. For them to pick through. Reduce, reuse recycle, but what those people weren’t doing as much as they should have been was utilizing the reuse part of that slogan as much as they should have been. What’s the saying? “One man’s garbage is another man’s treasure.” So why shouldn’t we as a society take that to heart, and try to make something out of the excess waste of the twenty first century.
Lo, and behold. There is at least one company trying to do as much. Atlas Design Co. A company that takes your trash, and turns it into something you, yourself would buy. This all started with one man who lived on the streets. Who was repeatedly cast aside as just another bum. Deciding one day. To turn all the trash he found around him into something usable as well as artistic. More of us should be like this man who started with nothing, and made something. He reused what he found on the streets, and built himself a laboratory of genius. Like Dr. Frankenstein who took leftover parts, and made them come together to form a body, and it all started with these simple handmade aluminum can pinwheels.
~ ~ ~Collected right of the streets of Americas cities, and hand crafted for you. So support this movement. Read our background. Buy a pinwheel, and show your neighbors, as well as the rest of the world. that you are one of a growing many that will change the world. - - -
